Decorative Lighting Ideas For Your Home

Posted on

Whether you're moving into a new home or redecorating your current one, installing new lighting will give the house instant ambiance. Go for decorative lighting elements that will look just as good when they're off as when they're on.

It doesn't matter how big your home decorating budget is, since there are lighting options at every price point. You can make a big investment with one or two large pieces or go the thrifty route with less expensive items. No matter how much you spend on new lighting for your home, it's sure to give any room an updated look.

Not only will lighting elements look decorative when hung or displayed in your home, but they will also infuse any space with plenty of ambiance. When picking out lighting or bulbs that go into the pieces, decide if you want the rooms to have either a warm or cool look. Warm lighting gives spaces a cozy glow, while cool lighting has more of a modern vibe and may be more ideal for workspaces, such as a home office.

Here are some decorating lighting ideas to consider:

1. Chandeliers

If you're ready to spend a bit to make an investment in your home, you can't go wrong with chandeliers. When hung in the center of a ceiling, a chandelier will give a room an elegant look and become the focal point of the space. In the dining room, hang the chandelier over the table to illuminate family meals. In the bedroom, suspend a chandelier over a bed for a touch of opulence.

Chandeliers come in a variety of styles, such as crystal and even carved wood for a more casual, eclectic style. They are either electric or hold candles, depending on the vibe you're going for and if you're able to easily reach them.

2. String Lights

String, sometimes known as fairy, lights, aren't just for Christmas. You can wrap strings of white lights around pillars, beams, bookcases, headboards, or anywhere else to give a room a magical glow. String lights are a perfect way to infuse any space with a romantic flair.

You can also hang string lights anywhere outside your home, such as around a tree, or use them to lighten up an enclosed porch. While white lights will be appropriate all year round, you can switch out the colors to reflect specific holidays, such as orange and purple for Halloween, as a festive touch.
